We now offer fairly comprehensive granular data for the debt markets, covering Corporate Bonds, Commercial Paper and Certificate of Deposits (and expanding to others soon). We now track daily primary issuance as well as secondary trades in each of these segments. Since pricing of corporate bonds is derived of GSecs, we also calculate and publish both YTMs and Spreads (over GSec) for every trade.

You can even track credit ratings of every corporate bond (where available) as well as changes in ratings. And where instruments are regularly traded, see a price and spread chart. For a given issuer you can also see list of all the other Bonds or CPs or CDs issued by it. You can also query bonds by type and category (Green bonds or Tier II bonds etc). Consequent to this we have had to change the subset classification. So instead of just Domestic and International subset we have now Domestic - Scheduled and Domestic Non-Scheduled and similarly for International - Scheduled and Non-Scheduled.

This first version allows you to create custom charts and tables using data on IndiaDataHub by applying various data transformations as well as use your defined series by applying any of the BODMAS operations and custom formatting and chart types. The charts and tables are refreshable from within Microsoft Word by a single click, so you do not have to spend time downloading the data every time and updating the charts or tables and formatting them.

The next version of this Report Assistant will allow you to link your Excel files saved on OneDrive with full on device processing of your OneDrive data as well as integrate elements of GenAI to further assist in writing reports. NPCI has started releasing data on UPI spends by some Merchant Category Codes (MCCs). That data is now live and available from January 2023.

There are in all 50 MCCs for which the data is available but not all have consistent history.

Custom series is live for Economic Monitor and will be rolled out to Mutual Funds database later this month. There you can build you can use custom series to calculate market share across fund houses or fund categories or relative growth in AUMs etc. You can even use it to simulate portfolio performances (a few units of scheme A + some units of scheme B + some units of scheme C etc) - although a separate portfolio tool is being built and will be rolled out along with equity market data.

Public finances play a crucial role in understanding the short-term as well as medium-term prospects for any economy. The kind of taxes the government levies, the amount of taxes it collects, the money it spends, and the areas where it spends it, along with the consequent budget deficits (or surplus) are more than just numbers. They tell us the government’s policy focus and how that is flowing through the real economy in terms of hard money. Public finances also impact several economic variables – be it growth or inflation, interest rates, exchange rates and even the stock markets.

So this is our endeavour to improve the understanding of public finances in totality as well as separately for the Centre and the States (and each State in itself). In over 120 pages and 4 sections, the handbook summarises the key short and medium-term trends in Public finances. From the way the government collects its revenues to how it spends and how much deficit it runs. How the revenue and expenditure pattern of the Central government differs from that of the State governments and how the different states differ from each other in terms of their revenue and expenditure profiles.

And more importantly, the functions can be applied sequentially (one on top of another, upto 3 at a time per series) as well as separately (two separate functions at a time on the same series). And the functions can be applied across the databases. So for example, you can convert a daily NAV series for a mutual fund scheme into monthly series and compare it’s YoY growth to the growth in its monthly AUM. The video below shows how to achieve this with just a few clicks:

Lastly, you can even apply functions programmatically. So the functions are accessible even through our APIs. So instead of simply calling daily 10-year GSec yield, you can through the API call, 20-day moving average of the series. Or YoY Change of the 20-day moving average! Or you can get rolling 3-year Cagr of the NAV of mutual fund schemes, interpolated to fill in the missing dates! Next week, the functions will get rolled out to our Excel plugin, so you can set up your series with the functions you want and just refresh whenever required to get the latest data.

And we will continue to build more analytical features. Next quarter we will be rolling out the ability to build your own custom series by applying different mathematical operations (the entire range of BODMAS operations) as well as currency and unit conversion. And we will be extending functions to the corporate fundamentals database as well. Stay tuned...!
